My Adventure with Art
Thank you for visiting and viewing my work.
It has been an adventure with many twisting, branching roads. Since receiving my BFA from Cornell University, before digital art was ubiquitous, I have become adaptable – from first opening Photoshop thirty years ago to learning product development and engineering on-the-job to incorporating AI into everyday workflows. My path has been that of constant learning and growth. My avatar would have to be a “Swiss Army Knife”, as I tend to be versatile, a quick study, and able to do many things. Admittedly, being a “Master” in one area has eluded me, but that’s a continual search.
After a decade as an Instructor at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, I decided to abandon teaching in favor of commercial work. This includes toy design, product design, packaging and production art, illustration, game art and design, and – more recently – plush design and development. I am very familiar with manufacturing processes, comfortable in a leadership role and have a knack for tech and prototyping. In addition to print design and product development I can edit video, animate, create motion graphics and, more recently (and somewhat begrudgingly), integrated AI into development processes. My career trajectory has been one of continual, self-directed learning. Communicator or Problem-Solver, if you will.
But my true desire has always been to illustrate. Fantasy landscapes, magical characters and imaginary worlds, sprinkled generously with heavy metal, are where I wish to be. It isn’t the bulk of my “professional” work, but I’ll be updating it here to document and share. Even if that never becomes profitable for me, I will keep on imagining and creating.
Drawing and Painting
Portraits done with pastel pencil on Rives paper and oil on cardboard. All of these were part of my graduate work during my time as an Instructor. I was working toward an MFA in Animation so I might teach at other institutions. Alas, I didn’t finish before leaving my teaching career and pursuing commercial art full-time out of necessity. This style of limited-value drawing and painting is what I most enjoy.

Animation MFA Work
These are some background paintings and layouts I created during my time in Academy of Art University’s Animation MFA program. This was the aforementioned graduate path I was taking as an Instructor.

Video Game Environments
Digitally painted environments for the video game reboot “Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded (2013)”, produced by N-Fusion Interactive. This was a year-long contract that I began after moving on from teaching at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, a now defunct post-secondary school.

Product Development and Design
Work that I have done in the Toy, Game and Craft industries. Currently, I manage development of plush and other similar products, which has moved me further from actual creative work and toward a quasi middle-management role. AI infiltration has transformed how I work. In some ways it is freeing, but for the most part it feels like dying.

Packaging Art and Design
Here is a sampling of packaging art, concepts and other related items from various employers through the years, both as a contractor and as an in-house designer.

Print and Digital Ads
Some graphic design work created while I was part a marketing team at Lifestyle Healthcare Group, a strange pseudo-corporation that I had the unfortunate chance to work for. Most of this is fodder, but it was still a part of my career after teaching.

Personal Work
A repository for what I enjoy creating for myself.
